Dr Annie Mears was born in the UK and graduated from the University of Nottingham Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2016. During and after her studies Dr Annie travelled to provide veterinary services around the world and completed a wildlife internship South Africa. After spending a while in small animal and emergency practice in the UK, Dr Annie moved to South Africa in 2018 to work with Wildlife full time.

Since 2016 Dr Annie has worked in both wildlife, equine and mixed practice moving into self-employment in 2024. Dr Annie has undertaken many continuing education courses in everything from small animal medicine and surgery, equine congresses, to large predator anesthesia and megaherbivore anesthesia. She is currently working through her FEI qualifications to enable her to provide more competition specific equine services throughout the Eastern Cape.

Throughout Dr Annie’s wildlife career, she has treated most of South Africans wildlife species spending lots of time initially working with Rhinos and Elephants then moving into working intensively with large cats and carnivores.

Ever since a child Dr Annie has loved animals and worked with them wherever possible. She is an avid lifelong lover of horses and donkeys and has two thoroughbreds and a warmblood that she competes with in showjumping, eventing and dressage.

At home Dr Annie has two rescue dogs from the Grahamstown SPCA, a labrador, a golden retriever and an ex feral colony cat.

 

In her spare time, you will find Dr Annie with her animals, ALWAYS! Riding her beloved horses or spending time with her beloved pets and long-suffering partner.
